FSH controls ovarian follicles, estrogen secretion, menstrual cycles, spermatogenesis, and D2 cyclin. Ovarian and testicular tumors have high levels of cyclin D mRNA. FSH deficient males have small testes, yet fertile to a variable degree. The 54-kb gene has 10 exons and encodes the 695-amino acid protein.  animal hormone,  follicle,  ovary,  menstruation,  gametogenesis,  differentiation,  NGFI-A,  cell cycle,  gonadal dysgenesis; Driancourt MA 2001 Theriogenology 55:1211; FSH structure: Fan QR, Hendrickson WA 2005 Nature [Lond] 433:269.
