A recessive blistering of the skin usually accompanied by lack of hairs on the head, eyebrows and eyelashes, and partial pancreatic hyperplasia and thymus hypoplasia. The deficiency in zinc-binding is characteristic and causes low levels of zinc and alkaline phosphatase (a zinc metalloenzyme) in the plasma.
