Abstract
The concept of neighbourhood has long been a topic of popular discourse and a subject of academic interest. Despite this attention, there is little agreement on what the term ‘neighbourhood’ means. The American Heritage Dictionary (Pickett, 2000) simply defines a neighbourhood as ‘a district or an area with distinctive characteristics’.
