Introduction

Businesses are producers of goods and services; as lobbyists they represent their own economic interests or the interests of their branch in politics. Increasingly, firms also contribute directly to the common welfare of society. In some companies there has been a long tradition of philanthropic involvement, especially in the form of corporate donations. Yet over the last 2–3 decades, corporate giving has increased considerably in scope in many countries. Although valid data regarding the extent of corporate giving is often lacking, current information which partially stems from regular surveys reveals that businesses play an important role in supporting nonprofit organizations.

Corporate giving is implemented in differentiated forms with various instruments. Given the globalized economy, these instruments are used in numerous countries.
