Definition

A mood disorder is a psychological disorder in which a disturbance in mood is the main feature (DSM-IV-TR, 2000). Mood disorders are divided into Depressive Disorders, the Bipolar Disorders, and Mood Disorders with a specified etiology. Depressive Disorders include Major Depressive Disorder, Dysthymic Disorder, and Depressive Disorders Not Otherwise Specified. The Bipolar Disorders include Bipolar I Disorder, Bipolar II Disorder, Cyclothymic Disorder, and Bipolar Disorder Not Otherwise Specified. The Mood Disorders based on etiology include Mood Disorder Due to a General Medical Condition and Substance-Induced Mood Disorder.
