Description

The current edition of the Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised (ADI-R; Rutter, Le Couteur, & Lord, 2003) is a standardized, semistructured, and investigator-based interview for parents or caregivers of individuals with autism. It provides a diagnostic algorithm for the ICD-10 definition of autism (World Health Organization [WHO], 1992) and DSM-IV (American Psychiatric Association [APA], 1993). The interview is appropriate for the diagnostic assessment of any person within the age range extending from early childhood to adult life, provided that they have a non-verbal mental age above 2 years. The ADI-R includes 93 items in three domains of functioning – language/communication, reciprocal social interactions, and restricted, repetitive, and stereotyped behaviors and interests, as well as other aspects of behaviors.
