NART (NART-R)
Description
The National Adult Reading Test (NART), Second Edition, is a test of premorbid intellectual functioning. This latest edition (1991) was re-standardized for adults aged 20–70. The NART is an untimed measure, consisting of 50 words with atypical phonemic pronunciation. Each word is presented individually and subjects are required to read each aloud. Scoring formulae allow for the estimation of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-Revised (WAIS-R) index scores, not the WAIS-III. Blair and Spreen (1989) created the North American Adult Reading Test (NAART), for use within a North American population, which consists of 61 irregular words to be pronounced according to American and Canadian pronunciation systems.
