The McCarthy Scales of Children’s Abilities (MSCA) is a psychological instrument for young children that measures cognitive ability in six domain areas: Verbal, Perceptual-Performance, Quantitative, General Cognitive, Memory, and Motor. One unique feature of this measure is a Motor domain area which examines the development of fine and gross motor skills as well as one’s left and right handedness. Each scale contains a number of individual subtests. The Verbal scale includes the subtests of Pictorial Memory, Word Knowledge, Verbal Memory, Verbal Fluency, and Opposite Analogies. The Perceptual-Performance scale includes the subtests of Block Building, Puzzle Solving, Tapping Sequence, Right-Left Orientation, Draw-A-Design, Draw-A-Child, and Conceptual Grouping.
