Iris standards are used to provide a set of guidelines for iris system implementation, design, and interoperability. Both published and emerging standards for iris-based systems include recommendations for interoperability, data formats, conformance, compression, and quality.
There are two Technical Committees that create standards for the United States (U.S.) and international communities which solely concern biometrics. The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) InterNational Committee for Information Technology Standards (INCITS) M1 Technical Committee creates U.S. national standards. This same group is the U.S. Technical Advisory Group for the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Joint Technical Committee 1, Subcommittee 37 (SC37), which creates biometric international standards [1, 2].
