Definition

Precision agriculture. A modern agricultural management paradigm that utilizes information technology to tailor crop management strategies according to inherent spatial and temporal variability within agricultural systems.

Information technology. Use of computer-based systems to collect, store, process, transmit, retrieve, and protect information.

Management zone. An area within an agricultural field that has a similar characteristic or that requires a similar treatment strategy for fertilizer or pesticide.

Decision support system. A software system that utilizes information about an agricultural system to predict the outcomes of various management alternatives and to aid in the decision-making process for agricultural crop management.
