Youden, William John (1900–1971) earned his master's degree in chemistry from Columbia University in 1924. From 1924 to 1948 he worked in the Boyce Thompson Institute for Plant Research in Yonkers, NY. From 1948 until his retirement in 1965, Youden, W.J. was a member of the Applied Mathematics Division in the National Bureau of Standards in Washington, D.C. During this period Youden developed a test and wrote Statistical Methods for Chemists.
