Membrane protein related to chemokine receptors expressed on erythrocytes, endothelial cells, and several types of epithelial cells. It binds IL-8 and several other chemokines without transmitting a signal, acting thus as a “cytokine sink”. Contains also antigenic determinants for the Duffy blood group system and functions as the erythrocyte receptor for Plasmodium vivax. Also known as the Duffy antigen receptor for chemokines (DARC).
