History of exploration
The oldest period of geological research is connected with the Austrian-Hungarian monarchy. Sporadic reconnaisance was carried out by BouĆ©, Beudant, Pusch, Zejszner and Staszic. In 1849 the state geological institute in Vienna was founded, and its employees, mainly von Hauer, Mojsisovics, Uhlig, Vetters and the first Slovak geologist tĆ¼r, director of the institute, started systematic research. In 1870 the first Academy of Mines in central Europe was established in BanskĆ” Stiavnica (formerly Schemnitz). After 1869 research was continued by the geologists of the newly founded geological institute in Budapest: von Bƶckh, Rozslozsnik, Szabƶ and others. After 1919, in the framework of the Czechoslovak Republic, geological research was organized by the employees of the geological institute...
