planar diffused waveguide

A waveguide that usually (a) is a thin-film slab dielectric waveguide, (b) is about one micron (1 μm) to about ten microns (10 μm) thick, and (c) has a graded refractive-index profile that is made by controlling the diffusion of dopants during its construction.
