1. In cryptosystems, a capability that (a) is used to transmit text in a transmission system, such as a radiotelephone, radiotelegraph, satellite, landline, or undersea communications system, and (b) is built into certain cryptoequipment that permits operators (i) to monitor for plain text in transmissions, (ii) to receive signals when their equipment is set for reception of ciphony transmissions, and (iii) to operate in the cipher standby condition.
