DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEM

It is a computer system that assists the decision maker in selecting a certain desired strategy among multiple alternative courses of action by storing, processing, and retrieving large amount of data and knowledge relevant to the selection decision.

It often is a software package to support management decision making. The package contains methods to handle data from information systems, or mathematical models to derive conclusions from these data. A typical characteristic of a decision support systems is that the user can interact with the system, for example by asking questions of “what-if” type.
