Introduction. On Philosophy of Music and Aesthetics

Two banal facts:

    Every music education mirrors a certain philosophy of music education, represented by the music teacher. The teacher’s philosophy of music education is in turn related to educational philosophies, as well as to philosophies of music and aesthetic philosophies.

    Music education research is multi-disciplinary in the extreme. As researchers in this field, we draw on any number of hyphen disciplines and subdisciplines that come under the aegis of education (or pedagogy) as an academic subject, as well as on music as both an academic subject and an art form. Thus, music education can be approached from psychological, sociological, anthropological, and philosophical angles.
