This type of soil develops under the shrub desert vegetation in temperate arid regions. The parent materials have a coarse matrix with a gravel layer and a pore-like crust on the surface. The soil contains lime-coated aggregates and gypsum accumulations, particularly in extremely dry areas. It is classified as between the grey desert soil and brown desert soil, and it is mainly located in the Junggar Basin and Hexi Corridor.
