Granite Moulding Stone
Reference work entry
This is a granite landscape with a unique shape. Through various geological processes, granite can be carved into shapes that look like a person, an object, an animal or a manufactured product. They can be given an elegant label, an image, or a name, shown to tourists, or become the objects of photographers and painters. Granite moulding stones are an important tourism resource. Tourists do not easily recognise them if they are not labelled with a sign at the scenic site. The quantity of granite moulding stones will tend to as the visitors’ ability to appreciate them increases and their imagination grows. The ‘Goddess of the Orient’ and ‘Giant Python Crawling Out of the Mountain’ in Sanqingshan, Jiangxi, and the ‘Blossoming Brush in Dream’, ‘Monkey Watching the Sea’ and ‘Fairies Drying Their Boots’ in Huangshan, Anhui Province, are famous examples of granite moulding stones (Fig. 29).
