Applications from the member states are accepted by the secretariat of the UNESCO Global Geopark Bureau. Each member state can only apply for a maximum of two geoparks each year. Countries that have never applied before are allowed to submit three applications. The applicant must be a member of the National Geopark Network of the relevant country. Three digital copies of the application in either English or French are required. The hard copies submitted should not exceed 30 pages. The application shall be signed by the administrative body of the geopark, the National Geopark Network, the National Committee of UNESCO and the local governments. After receiving the application, assessors will be appointed to inspect the geoparks and report to the review committee of the Global Geopark Bureau. When approved, the national geopark will then become a member of the Global Geoparks Network.
