The geopark is located in the southern part of the state of Ceara, Brazil. It has an area of 5,000 km2, and it joined the Global Geoparks Network in 2006. From the most beautiful point of Santa Cruz at an elevation of 750 m, a panoramic view of parts of the Alari Basin is visible. The geopark provides visitors with leisure facilities such as restaurants, playgrounds with ancient animal themes, and a small church near the observation building. The area is covered by vegetation, with dirt roads and paths that lead visitors to geosites and scenic sites. The URCA Museum of Palaeontology in Santana do Cariri is a facility for palaeontology research, and it has become a popular site for learning about local fossils.
