A geographic information system (GIS) is a computer system that collects, stores, manages, calculates, analyses, displays, describes, and transmits geospatial information with the support of software, hardware, internet and intranet networks. A geographic information system can process and manage a variety of tourism-related geospatial data and their relationships, including spatial positioning, graphics, remote sensing images, and attribute data, to analyse and process the distributions of various phenomena in a tourism area. The current statuses of the process and the tourist area are used to assist and address planning, decision-making and management issues.
