Garamba National Park, Congo
Garamba National Park is located in the borderland near southern Sudan in Oriental Province, northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. It covers a core protection area of 4,920 km2. The park’s immense savannahs, grasslands and woodlands, which are interspersed with gallery forests along the river banks and swampy depressions, are home to four large mammals, namely, elephants, giraffes, hippopotami and white rhinoceroses. Though much larger than the black rhinoceros, the white rhinoceros is harmless; only approximately 30 individuals remain.
