A fold system is a fold belt composed of several inverted geosynclines with land masses between them, which have experienced intense structural deformation, magmatic activity and metamorphism. A fold belt always has similar tectonic characteristics and geologic histories. A typical example is the Qilian-Dabie-Kunlun-Qinling fold system.
