This geopark is located in Fengkai County, Zhaoqing City, in northwestern Guangdong Province along the upper reaches of the Xijiang River, adjacent to Wuzhou City in Guangxi Province, and along the Tropic of Cancer. It became a national geopark in 2005. The attractions include the giant dome-shaped Yanshanian granite landscape, the karst landscape of Palaeozoic carbonate rocks, and the Zhangjiajie sandstone columnar peak-forest landscape that formed in Devonian quartz sandstone. These features illustrate the tremendous changes that have occurred over the past 500 million years in western Guangdong and record the evolution of ancient humans in Lingnan (South China).
