Explosion breccia is a type of breccia that forms during underground eruptions. The rock block created by the explosion can be transported away due to gas (or fluid) action to form an intrusive body of breccia. The transition from ‘explosion breccia’ to ‘intrusion breccia’ is gradual. Some kimberlites are explosion breccias.
