Deciduous broadleaf forests are also called ‘Xialulin (summer green woodland)’ in China. These are zones of vegetation that develop in warm, humid and semi-humid areas. The arbour layer is mainly composed of Brassica, Gossypium, Fraxinus, Tilia, Ulmus, Fagus and birch. The main deciduous broadleaf trees are alder and populus. In China, these forests are mainly distributed in northern and southern Northeast China. The climate in these areas has four distinct seasons. The vertical structure of the community generally has four levels: a tree layer, a shrub layer, a herb and moss layer, and a lichen layer.
