This geopark is located in Zigong City, Sichuan Province, and covers an area of 37 km2. It became a global geopark in 2008. It has three major scenic districts, the Dashanpu Dinosaur Fossil Relic Site, Zigong Salt Industry Park and Ronglong Qinglongshan Dinosaur Fossil Site Relic Site. The geopark has different functional areas for scientific research, popularising science, eco-tourism, and historical and cultural exploration. It is a famous salt city and an important dinosaur fossil region of China. Large numbers of precious dinosaur fossils have been discovered in the area, which can be categorised into 3 classes, 11 orders, 15 families, and nearly 20 species. A considerable portion of these fossils are from a new genus and new species, including the longest (20-m-long) Asian dragon, a long herbivorous dinosaur, a fierce predatory dinosaur, a short-bodied dinosaur, and other original fossils. Stegosaurus has high scientific and tourism value.
