This geopark is located in Sunan and Linze Counties, Zhangye City, Gansu Province. The geopark has a total area of 529 km2, and the main geological features are concentrated in an area of 93 km2. It became a national geopark in 2011. It has typical high, cold, and arid Danxia landforms and colourful hills. In addition, the Carboniferous marine-continental sediments in the Xiaoqinglong Groove (Little Green Dragon Groove) at the centre of the geopark, the rich coral, ammonoids, odontopterid zoolites and phytoliths in the strata, and the Namurian ammonoid and phytolith belts are continuous and complete. They have become typical profiles for studying life and marine-continental sedimentation during the Carboniferous. The geopark integrates scientific research, science popularisation, tourism, historical and cultural heritage and environmental protection.
