This geopark is located in the region of Qinglong Mountain and Hongzhaizi in Liupo Town, Bixian County, Shiyan City, Hubei Province, and in the area of low mountains and hills on the southern bank of the Han River. Yunxian Dinosaur National Geopark was designated as one of the fourth group of national geoparks by the Ministry of Land and Resources in August 2005. The geopark is a concentrated area of Cretaceous dinosaur eggs. Numerous dinosaur fossils and dinosaur egg fossils are located in the same rock layer. In the most concentrated places, the nests are less than 3 m apart, and each nest contains approximately 10 (maximum of 25) eggs. The original conditions of the dinosaur eggs have been preserved. Numerous dinosaur bone fossils have also been found in Caomaoling, the Guangou Karst Caves, Meipu Ape Man Cave and Huxiao Beach. Other interesting geological relics and natural landscapes can also be found in the geopark.
