This geopark is located in Nanlushan Town in northwestern Qiyuan County, Shandong Province. It has a total area of 132 km2, and the main geological features are concentrated in an area of 16.50 km2. It became a national geopark in 2011. The geopark features groups of karst caves and granite landform landscapes with palaeo-anthropological sites and many historic and cultural features. It has the largest underground karst cave group in northern China with colourful karst chemical deposits. Ape man remains have been found in the geopark; they are from the same period as Sinanthropus pekinensis and have been named the Yiyuan Ape Man. In addition, the geopark contains various granite and limestone landforms, unique rocks, waterfalls, streams, highland wetlands, lakes, springs and other water landscapes as well as landslides and rockfalls.
