This geopark is located in Chaoyang City, Liaoning Province. It became a national geopark in 2004. The main geological attractions are fossils, fossil-bearing strata, and geologic structures. It has five main scenic areas: Heshou, Sihetun, Lingyuan and Dazhangzi (both of which are major production areas of the famous ‘Rehe River Biota’ fossils), Fenghuangshan Park, and Zhangshudong. Numerous Mesozoic and Palaeozoic fossils have been found in Chaoyang City, including the discoveries of the earliest birds and flowering plants. These fossils are unique and rare, and so they are world-class fossil treasures.
