Xixia Dinosaur Eggs
Reference work entry
This fossil site is located in the Cretaceous strata in the Xiping-Chimei and Sangping Basins in Xixia County, Henan Province. The dinosaur egg strata are mainly in the Zoumagang Formation, Zhaoying Formation and Sangping Formation, and the Zhaoying Formation contains the most abundant fossil eggs. The eggs that have been identified eggs are Macroolithus, Elongatoolithus and Spheroolithus. Most of the eggs are well preserved, and some have remained intact. Many eggs have broken shells, which indicates that the dinosaur babies had hatched. Some eggs contain embryos; they have significant scientific research value (Fig. 8).
