This geopark is located in Tianshui, Gansu Province. It became one of the 5th group of national geoparks in August 2009. It contains Danxia and granite landforms, typical stratigraphic sections, the deep Hequ and the art of the grottoes. The 40-km-long, 5–9-km-wide Danfeng Group ophiolite belt is located in the region. Other important features include the northeast Songpan tectonic site in the West Qinling Mountains, Danxia landforms with vertical cliffs, table mountains, peak forests, conical Danxia hills, and the deep Qu Xi gorge. The Maijishan grottoes were built in the late Qin Dynasty, more than 1,600 years ago. They contain 204 cave niches and 7,866 clay sculptures, and they are protected as national cultural relic protection units.
