Castle-Like Granite Peak, Fort-Like Granite Peak
Reference work entry
This type of granite peak is large, is surrounded by steep terrain and looks majestic. It is nearly circular in cross-section, like a castle or fortress-shaped hill. Vertical joints are not well developed in granite castle-like peaks; and the joints are mostly widely spaced oblique joints or conjugate joints. In general, the rocks do not easily collapse or fall. The peak’s summit is comparatively flat with remnants resulting from earlier erosion (Fig. 9).
