Subtropical Desert Climate
This climate type can be found in the inland and coastal regions in the western parts of the continents near the Tropic of Cancer to 25° north and south latitudes, covering northern Africa, the Arabian Peninsula in Asia and the inland areas of the Australian desert. Due to the subtropical high-pressure belt and the trade winds, continental tropical air masses prevail throughout the year with little rainfall (approximately 100 mm per annum). The sunshine is strong, and the temperatures are high with an average annual temperature of 30 °C. Subtropical desert vegetation dominates this climate. The distribution and formation of the great deserts in the world are closely related to this type of climate.
