A structural basin is a large to medium-sized syncline with two equal horizontal axes that forms due to crustal subsidence. It is different from the definition of ‘geomorphic basin’ in geography. Some but not all geomorphic basins are structural basins. Structural basins can be divided into depressions (such as the Jiangsu Plain) and faulted basins (such as the Fen-Wei Basin).
