The strike represents the orientation of the intersection of a planar feature with a horizontal plane, and it also represents the direction of a line projected onto a horizontal plane. A structural plane may be an actual fracture plane (such as a fault plane), or it can be an identifiable geometric plane (such as the axial surface of a fold). The strike can be presented as an azimuth (such as 300°), or it can be expressed as a quadrant compass bearing (e.g., 64.1265° N, 21.8174° W of Reykjavik, Iceland).
