Sand is a medium-grained clastic material that has been eroded by mechanical weathering of exposed surface rocks. Sand has an average particle size of 0.0625–2 mm. Sand is widely distributed in Quaternary sediments and modern rivers, lakes and deserts, and its main components are quartz, feldspar and mica. Sand has good water permeability and serves as good groundwater storage layers.
