Rwenzori Mountains National Park, Uganda
This park is located in the Rwenzori Mountains in southwestern Uganda near the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It has a core protection area of 996 km2. The park occupies the main part of the Rwenzori Mountains, including the third highest peak in Africa (Margarita Peak, 5,109 m above sea level). Glaciers, waterfalls and lakes have made the site one of the most beautiful high-mountain scenic areas. The park provides a diverse home for endangered species and contains rich and unusual plant landscapes. In particular, it is famous for the giant Photinia serratifolia.
