Regional geology is a comprehensive and fundamental science of a specific area’s stratigraphy, geological structures, magmatic activities and igneous rocks, metallogenic conditions, Quaternary geology and geomorphology, hydrological engineering and environmental geology, geophysics and geochemistry. Research on regional geology focuses on the geological structures, the overall characteristics of the area’s evolution and its intrinsic links with geological processes. Regional geological surveys are the foundation of geological heritage protection and the establishment of geoparks.
