This scale is a set of stratigraphic units suitable for use in a specific biogeographical region. It generally includes the regional stages and chronozones. Several marine facies regional stages (such as the Qixia Stage and Maokou Stage of the Middle Permian Series) and terrestrial facies regional stages (such as the Shanwang Stage of the Miocene Series and the Nihewan Stage of the Quaternary System) have been identified in China. However, there are also several higher-level regional chronostratigraphic units, such as the Changchengian Period and Jixianian Period of the Mesoproterozoic Era and the Nanhuan Period and Sinian Period of the Neoproterozoic Era. Further verification of the corresponding relationships between the regional chronostratigraphic scale and the international chronostratigraphic units hinges on continuous in-depth research on these topics.
