Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park, The Philippines
This park is located in the centre of Palawan Island in the western Philippines and has a core protection area of 57 km2. Its main features are the karst landscapes in the underground river area. River water flowing directly into the ocean is a major wonder of the subterranean river, and the lower section of the river is affected by tidal activity. The park is also a valuable natural habitat for biodiversity conservation. With a complete ecosystem chain ‘from mountain peaks to oceans’, the site protects the most important forests in Asia.
