Provincial Park System, Canada
Canada has ten provinces and three regions, each of which has its own provincial park system. To preserve natural heritage and promote public appreciation and utilisation of the heritage, the National and Provincial Parks Association of Canada (NPPAC) was founded in 1963 and was later renamed the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS). Currently, 830 provincial parks in British Columbia and 330 provincial parks in Ontario receive more than 10 million visitors every year. Provincial parks in Quebec are officially called ‘national parks’, and 23 such parks are now administered by the provincial government.
