Phyllitic foliation is a type of planar structure comprising small-scale oriented minerals and small wrinkle marks that form during metamorphism. It is a typical structure of shallow metamorphic rocks that is composed of a parallel arrangement of micro-sericite. The small-scale minerals are generally not recognizable to the naked eye, and this is the main difference from the foliations that can be identified with the naked eye.
