Pegmatites are dykes composed of large or coarse-grained minerals. They are usually made up of large crystals of K-feldspar, quartz and mica, such as in the common granite pegmatite. Some pegmatites may contain gem-quality minerals, such as aquamarine, tourmaline, topaz and rock crystal.
