Ordos Geopark, Inner Mongolia

This geopark is located in Ordos, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The geopark has an area of 179 km2, and 152 km2is covered by the major geological features. It became a national geopark in 2011. The park has abundant and varying landscape resources and geographical relics. It is a comprehensive geopark with interesting geological structures, archaeological relics, fossils and water body landscapes. The geopark comprises the Salawusu Site, Otog Dinosaur Footprints Site and Yellow River Desert Lake Site (including the Qixing Lake Resort, Engebei Resort and Whistling Dune Bay). Salawusu is the origin of the Salawusu standard cross-sections of the late Pleistocene era in northern China and the Salawusu animal fossils. The Otog dinosaur footprints site contains a mix of early Cretaceous Sauropoda dinosaur footprints and Theropoda footprints.
