This geopark is located in the far northwestern part of Scotland and covers an area of 2,000 km2. It became a global geopark in 2005. The park has the most beautiful mountains and coastal landscapes in the UK and numerous important geological sites. The park contains two nature reserves, 54 geological survey and teaching sites, 26 special geosites for research, 17 special protected areas, and 11 special conservation areas. It also has ancient cultural sites, including an Iron Age fortress and defensive towers, the remains of Norwegians, and the castles and houses of Scottish nobles.
