According to the ‘National Geopark Establishment Standards’ of the Ministry of Land and Resources, every potential geopark applicant should complete the establishment of the geopark within 3 years. To complete this process, the potential geopark must (1) prepare a geopark plan and geoheritage protection plan (30 points); (2) establish and complete an interpretation system (40 points); (3) conduct scientific research and activities (15 points); and (4) establish an efficient management structure and information system, including setting up an office, arranging human resources, constructing a geopark database, installing a security monitoring system and building a geopark website (15 points). After completion of this work and preparation, the geopark will be formally inspected and approved by the local government.
