This geopark is located in Xiaojin County, Tibetan Qiang Autonomous Prefecture of Ngawa in Sichuan Province. It lies along the eastern border of the Qingzang Plateau in the first level of the Chinese landform and is adjacent to the Wolong Nature Reserve in Wenchuan County. It became a national geopark in 2005. The geopark has very high mountain landforms and Quaternary glacial landforms with intense headwater dissection; thus, the valleys are steep, with relative heights of 2,000–2,500 m. The geopark is divided into three geomorphological zones, namely, the Very-high Mountainous Zone with Moderate Dissection, High Mountainous Zone with Deep Dissection and Moderately high Mountainous Zone with Deep Dissection, in which dozens of recent glaciers of various scales have developed.
